12 Nov a new year and finding power in loneliness

I just recently celebrated a sangria-filled birthday; a low-key affair of dinner and drinks with four people. I can see how it’s easy for people to think that when one’s surrounded by so many people, mostly digitally, you are the furthest from ever feeling alone. Fact is I can count on one hand the people I have – physically – around me regularly, most of whom I’ve met over the last year. I’m ok with this. I’m selective over who I hang around with. I’m sure most people are, especially if you’ve survived really low esteem and you’ve come into your own so damn much that you can’t risk any negativity that may regress you back into those past lows. I thought a lot about this on my day. It’s totally fine to realize how long you can be around someone before you need to step away. Some friends are a coffee date for an hour while others are a 15 hr road trip belting out Sam Smith. It’s also ok to realize that I, no better than anyone else, can be an hour homie or a weekend trip friend. And it’s most definitely ok to allow myself to feel lonely because in my loneliest of times, I’ve focused more on my brand and how it can help those that can’t express themselves as loudly as I can. And I think I’ve done well in letting my light shine. I’m thankful that I found my light. There’s nothing for freeing than that!
